The filming for this season commenced in September, coinciding with the resurgence of a feud between Kim Kardashian and her ex-husband, Kanye West, on Instagram. To provide a quick recap, Kanye directed a series of now-deleted Instagram posts at Kim and her then-boyfriend, Pete Davidson, during the early months of the previous year.

Expressing his disapproval of their relationship, he criticized Kim's parenting style and accused her of playing games with their four children: North, Saint, Chicago, and Psalm. Moreover, Kanye's attacks extended to Pete, where he depicted himself in a disturbing music video, resembling a cartoonish figure, kidnapping and decapitating the comedian.

The conflict involving Kim, Pete, and Kanye seemed to simmer down by mid-March, coinciding with Kanye's temporary suspension from Instagram. However, in August, the artist reignited his attacks on Kim through a fresh series of posts. Following the news of Kim and Pete's separation, Kanye declared his desire to take control over their children's education. He specifically mentioned his intent for them to transfer from their current school to Donda Academy, his privately owned Christian institution.

Adding fuel to the fire, Kanye leaked a private text message from Kim, in which she pleaded with him to cease his Instagram posts. Kanye responded defiantly, dismissing her plea and questioning her authority over their children's schooling. He even insinuated that her biracial heritage played a role in her perceived lack of influence. Furthermore, Kanye accused Kim's mother, Kris Jenner, of encouraging their daughters, Chicago and North, ages 4 and 9 at the time, to participate in "Playboy and sex tapes."

During the same year that Kim's infamous sex tape with Ray J was released, Kris strongly encouraged Kim to pose nude for Playboy, as depicted in a widely circulated episode of Keeping Up With the Kardashians. Kanye continued his onslaught, expressing his view that Hollywood was akin to a "giant brothel" and blaming pornography for damaging his family. He claimed to struggle with addiction, accusing Instagram of promoting it, and vowed to prevent North and Chicago from enduring a similar fate.

Kanye also shared a text message purportedly from Kim on Kris's behalf, which highlighted their collective exasperation. Kris, speaking through Kim, implored Kanye to refrain from mentioning her name, citing the distress it caused her as a 67-year-old woman. In response, Kanye emphasized that Kim and Kris held no authority over his Black children and their choice of schools.

He reiterated that his children would not engage in activities like posing for Playboy or making sex tapes. Kanye even urged Kris to involve her "Clinton friends" in the situation, suggesting they intervene. During Season 2 of The Kardashians, Kim scarcely addressed Kanye's attacks, opting instead to maintain a low profile for the sake of their children.  However, Season 3 of the Hulu show provided valuable insight into the toll it took on her. As expected, Kim felt immense frustration behind the scenes, leading to a flare-up of her psoriasis—a condition she shares with Kris, causing inflammation in the body.

When Kris attributed the flare-up to stress, Kim responded sarcastically, suggesting that her ex-husband's behavior was the root cause. The stress also triggered anxiety attacks, leaving Kim feeling suffocated and unable to breathe. In a confessional, Kim opened up about Kanye's behavior, expressing her restrained response to his outlandish claims and actions. News articles featuring screenshots of leaked messages served as a backdrop to her narrative.
