The 66th annual Grammy Awards in Los Angeles stirred up quite a buzz, with Travis Scott, the ex-partner of Kylie Jenner, making headlines for more than just his performance.

Taking the stage to deliver a set from his album Utopia, the 32-year-old Texas native, and father of two, seized the opportunity to address what he perceived as snubs throughout the evening, especially after losing the Best Rap Album award to Killer Mike. In a visually striking performance, Scott brought a dystopian scene to life, featuring fire and fog, while showcasing renditions of three tracks from Utopia: FE!N, My Eyes, and I Know. However, the climax of his performance was marked by an unexpected move, as he let loose and slammed folding chair props onto the stage, an apparent expression of frustration following his loss in the competitive category.
The Grammy Awards featured a lineup of other notable performers, including Billie Eilish, Miley Cyrus, and SZA, each of whom took home awards. Travis Scott's collaborator and friend, Drake, took to Instagram to air his grievances towards the Recording Academy. Sharing his 2019 Grammy acceptance speech, Drake emphasized the subjective nature of the awards, stating, 'All you incredible artists remember this show isn't the facts; it's just the opinion of a group of people whose names are kept a secret (literally you can Google it).'
Drake further asserted, 'Congrats to anybody winning anything for hip hop, but this show doesn't dictate s*** in our world.' Scott, who was nominated for one award this year in the Best Rap Album category, faced stiff competition from fellow artists such as Drake & 21 Savage, Killer Mike, Metro Boomin, and Nas. Despite the nomination, Scott found himself on stage as a performer, having been announced for the role in late January.
This year's Grammy Awards continued a trend of overlooking Scott in various categories in the past, including Best Melodic Rap Performance, Album of the Year, Best Rap/Sung Performance, Best Rap Performance, and Best Rap Song.
The night's major winner, however, was Taylor Swift, who secured the coveted Album of the Year trophy. Yet, Swift's triumph was not without controversy, as fervent supporters of SZA, the most nominated artist at the event with nine nods, insisted that she should have taken home the Album of the Year award instead.
