The 46-year-old artist took the stage alongside Travis Scott at the Utopia concert in Rome on Monday, marking a notable return to the limelight. Scott, 32, the Sicko Mode rapper and collaborator, introduced West with a heartfelt declaration, saying, "Only one human being on this **** planet that has ever walked side by side with me through anything and every **** thing." During their joint performance, West and Scott delivered renditions of their tracks "Praise God" and "Can't Tell Me Nothing." Notably, both artists have connections to the Kardashian family: West shares four children with his ex-wife Kim Kardashian, while Scott has two kids with his ex-girlfriend Kylie Jenner. In the wake of his anti-Semitic statements, West faced severe consequences. His Twitter account was banned, he was denounced by fellow celebrities, and he lost several lucrative sponsorship deals. High-profile brands including Gap, Balenciaga, CAA (his representatives), Foot Locker, and Adidas distanced themselves from the rapper.

Despite this backlash, demand for his Yeezy products has remained steady. Adidas reported selling over $425 million worth of remaining Yeezy inventory between April and June of this year, with a portion of proceeds going to anti-hate charities such as the Foundation to Combat Anti-Semitism and the Anti-Defamation League. The sportswear giant also reported holding approximately $1.3 billion worth of Yeezy stock in storage following the end of its collaboration with Kanye. Adidas chose to liquidate this stock rather than dispose of it, and the company will continue to sell off the remaining inventory.

While West's return to the stage may signal a resurgence in his career, it also brings into focus the ongoing controversies within the entertainment industry. Scott, too, is no stranger to controversy, having faced the tragic incident at his Astroworld music festival in 2021, where 10 people lost their lives and numerous others were injured. Despite a grand jury declining to recommend charges, Scott is still grappling with lawsuits from victims' families and injured attendees. Some families have since settled with the rapper, highlighting the complexity of navigating the aftermath of such events in the world of music and celebrity.
