The streaming service initially ordered the show in December 2020, signing the Kardashian-Jenner family to a massive deal rumored to be worth over $100 million.

The first deal included 30 episodes, distributed over three 10-episode seasons. In May 2023, just before Season 3, Hulu ordered another 20 episodes, which comprised the fourth and fifth seasons. While Hulu hasn't confirmed how the new episodes will be divided, it’s likely they will form two new seasons, based on the show's history. Hulu hasn’t released viewership data for The Kardashians, but they announced that the Season 5 premiere in May 2023 was the most-watched unscripted premiere of 2024 on Hulu in the U.S., and on Disney Plus and Star Plus internationally.

Danielle King serves as the showrunner and executive producer, alongside Fulwell 73's Ben Winston, Emma Conway, and Elizabeth Jones. The six main stars—Kim Kardashian, Kourtney Kardashian, Khloe Kardashian, Kendall Jenner, Kylie Jenner, and Kris Jenner—are also executive producers. The initial deal with Hulu ensured all six received equal pay and executive producer credits. Production status for the new episodes is unclear, but the last season was filmed in late 2023 and early 2024. The Kardashians originally hit the airwaves with Keeping Up With the Kardashians on E! in 2007, following the release of Kim's infamous sex tape with Ray J.

Developed by Ryan Seacrest, KUWTK debuted in October 2007 and ran for 20 seasons over 14 years, ending in June 2021. Six months later, the family announced their deal with Hulu. The Hulu series premiered in April 2022, becoming the most-watched premiere in the streaming service's history. Subsequent seasons followed, with Season 2 debuting in September 2022, Season 3 in May 2023, and Season 4 in late September 2023. Additionally, the family released a Kourtney Kardashian wedding special, 'Till Death Do Us Part, in April 2023.
