The 43-year-old reality star revealed she began seeing a therapist after years of encouragement from Kourtney, the Poosh founder. During a recent session, Kim experienced a 'lightbulb moment.' Although she had long described her ability to stay calm in emergencies as her 'superpower,' her therapist suggested it might actually be a 'trauma response' from living in 'fight or flight mode.'

Kim, who initially resisted therapy, acknowledged earlier in the season that her calm demeanor might have developed from becoming 'desensitized from trauma.' Speaking with Khloé Kardashian, Kim shared that her therapist believed her instinct to remain calm in crises likely stemmed from a past event. The therapist explained, "One time in life, something happened, and you remained calm, and that worked for you, so you will always choose calm."

Khloé speculated that the traumatic event might have been the 2016 robbery in Kim's Paris hotel room, where she was bound and robbed at gunpoint of $10 million worth of jewelry. "Don’t you think your robbery?" Khloé pointed out. "You weren’t calm before. Kim, you were a lunatic." Khloé recalled how Kim was 'never calm as a teenager' or in her twenties and would cry 'about everything.' "You were bratty, you threw tantrums," Khloé remembered. Everything stopped after you got robbed. Because you stayed calm in that situation, and you even said, 'My calmness is what kept me alive.'"

In a confessional, Kim reflected on the robbery, recalling how she was tied up and dragged across a hotel room while a man threatened her: "Stay calm and you’ll live." She noted, "I did that, and it served me well at that time and I think it saved my life." Kourtney was thrilled to hear about Kim's therapy journey. "Kourtney is back from Australia, and I’ve been waiting patiently to tell her about my therapy journey. I always would say as a kid that Kourtney did everything first and I would just copy her, and like it’s kinda true," Kim said in a confessional. Kim shared how she tends to resist changes to her plans, especially in relationships.

"When someone tells me not to do something that I planned on, I physically get like, 'you’re getting in my way, and I will bulldoze whatever’s in my way, cause you’re not gonna tell me to change my schedule,'" Kim explained. Kim told Kourtney, "You had to go through it first, and then I’m like I’m gonna do this," to which Kourtney responded, "Now you see why I wanted you guys to be on it." Kim's therapist noted that all the Kardashian sisters, especially Kim and Khloé, needed therapy. Kourtney related to becoming calmer due to trauma and the tendency to 'downplay everything almost as like self-protection.' She explained, "In emergency situations, I feel like my superpower is to be calm."

When asked by a producer if her family should do family therapy, Kourtney immediately said no, explaining, "Everyone’s at a different place in the board game, you know, getting to the finish line, and I feel like, everyone just do your own s**t." Back in 2021, Kim said she became a 'completely different person' after the robbery. To feel safe, she doesn't allow 'expensive items' into her home. "As far as jewelry, if I'm wearing something, it's borrowed. It's fake," she told Andy Cohen during the Keeping Up with the Kardashians reunion. She added, "I can't sleep if I have jewelry in my safe, or money, or anything at my house. I just don't live my life like that."

She also spoke about being less flashy and her hesitance over wearing expensive jewelry post-robbery. "On a positive note, I'm a completely different person because of it, in the best way," she reflected. The traumatic incident significantly changed her relationship with her sister Khloé. "Kim was obviously a great sister prior," said Khloé, "but there has been a significant shift in how Kim caters to her relationships and the attentiveness that she now gives her family as opposed to red carpets or things." While appearing on "My Next Guest Needs No Introduction With David Letterman" in 2021, Kim admitted to fearing her older sister Kourtney would return and "find [her] dead" in their hotel room.

She recalled tearfully, "I kept on thinking about Kourtney, I kept on thinking, like, she's gonna come home and I'm gonna be dead in the room and she's gonna be traumatized for the rest of her life." Kim and Kourtney had traveled to Paris, France together in October of 2016 to attend Paris Fashion Week. Kim noted that Kourtney had 'packed all [of Kim's] jewelry' for the trip, something she had 'never done before.' On the evening of the robbery, Kourtney left their hotel with the sisters' sole bodyguard, leaving Kim alone in their suite. Around three o'clock in the morning, Kim heard 'stomping up the stairs' and instantly felt as though 'someone was there to get [her],' prompting her to dial for help.
A gang of intruders violently entered her hotel room, demanding a ring from her then-husband Kanye West. Kim, recalling the terrifying event, broke down in tears, explaining how one of the intruders aggressively grabbed her while she was only wearing a robe. "I was like, 'OK, this is the time I'm gonna get raped. Like deal, this is gonna happen, just prepare yourself,'" Kim recalled. She was then tied up with handcuffs and zip-ties, and her mouth and eyes were duct-taped. The experience made her 'really paranoid.' The assailants were eventually arrested in January 2017, and Kim learned they had been watching her every move 'for two years leading up until this moment.'
