Kylie Jenner has shared an insider look at her office routine to bring her luxury clothing line, Khy, to life.
The 26-year-old reality star, who launched Khy last year alongside her other brands like Kylie Cosmetics and Sprinter, also discussed her go-to casual look in an interview with People.
"A day at the office usually includes meetings with the design team, creating mood boards, planning the drop calendar, reviewing sketches and fabrics, working on shoot creatives and campaigns, and fit testing pieces from upcoming drops," Kylie explained. "No, I'm not the main fit model! But I do like to try on every prototype we create to ensure it has a great fit and feel. I only want to release designs that I truly love and want to wear, so it’s crucial for me to test each piece firsthand and make sure it’s perfect."
The star also revealed her favorite casual look: "I'm usually in one of our comfy tank tops and sweat sets. My favorite is the Limoncello color." Upon Khy's launch, the brand's mission was summarized as: "Khy aims to redefine the modern wardrobe by offering edited collections that seamlessly blend luxury with everyday style, spanning a diverse range of categories and styles. By collaborating with iconic brands and global designers, we hope that Khy will be a platform that delivers access to incredible fashion for everyone."
However, in March, Khy faced criticism from environmental groups over its use of plastic materials. The reality star was accused of "perpetuating the fast fashion industry" with her line of dresses, tops, skirts, and pants made from fossil fuels rather than sustainable materials. All 38 products from her latest collection, released on February 28, are made of synthetics such as spandex, nylon, polyester, or a combination thereof.
Khy also offers a wide selection of faux leather products from the brand's first drop, made from Polyurethane (PU) leather—a plastic material derived from a synthetic polymer. The faux leather market, also known as "vegan leather," was valued at $35.4 billion last year and is driving a substantial rise in the use of PU leather in clothing products as a cheap alternative. However, this material is not durable, is prone to cracking, and wears down easily.
Despite these concerns, Kylie was awarded Best Vegan Fashion Moment at the PETA Fashion Awards in December for Khy's use of cruelty-free, faux leather, despite its not-so-eco-friendly plastic element. Emma Hakansson, founder of Collective Fashion Justice, criticized the brand, saying, "Kylie's brand sits in the fast fashion industry perpetuating our over-production and consumption crisis.
These garments are not designed to last; they follow short-lived trends with no respect for the people who made them, the planet, or the life harmed in the process. While animal-derived leather is one of the most climate-impactful, cruel, and destructive materials in fashion, referring to these garments as made from 'vegan leather' is disingenuous. These clothes are not made with any commitment to animal protection or sustainability, only profit."
