In a shocking development, the NBA has imposed a 25-game suspension on Tristan Thompson, the seasoned center for the Cleveland Cavaliers.
This penalty comes in the wake of Thompson's violation of the league's anti-drug program, testing positive for prohibited substances—ibutamoren and SARM LGD-4033. Both ibutamoren and SARM LGD-4033 fall under the 'steroids and performance enhancing drugs' (SPED) category in the NBA's Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA). Ibutamoren, categorized as a 'growth hormone,' and SARM LGD-4033, a common choice among bodybuilders and weightlifters for muscle enhancement, have been deemed unacceptable in the professional basketball league.

The 25-game suspension, stipulated by the current CBA, is the standard consequence for a player who not only tests positive for SPED but is also a first-time offender of the league's anti-drug policy. The financial implications of this suspension are substantial for Thompson, who stands to lose over $726,000 from his $3,196,448 salary. This amounts to missing out on 1/110th of his pay per game during the suspension period, reflecting the severity of the penalty imposed by the NBA.
Currently in his 12th NBA season, the 32-year-old Canadian-American has been an integral part of the Cavaliers' lineup. Averaging 3.8 points and 3.9 rebounds per game this season, Thompson has contributed significantly to the team's performance. Notably, he spent the first nine years of his NBA career with the Cavaliers, winning a championship in 2016 alongside LeBron James.
