Reality star Kim Kardashian addressed the controversy surrounding her use of a tanning bed to manage her psoriasis in a recent post on X (formerly Twitter) on Friday, January 19.

The revelation came after she showcased her SKKN office in a video tour, unveiling the presence of a tanning bed among other unique decor items. Kim responded to an Allure article with the headline "Please, Kim Kardashian, Don’t Try to Normalize Tanning Beds," expressing surprise at the inclusion of a tanning bed in her office. The article emphasized the potential risks of tanning beds leading to skin cancer. In defense, Kim explained that she uses the tanning bed occasionally to alleviate her psoriasis symptoms. "I have psoriasis, and it really helps when it’s bad. But I don’t use it too often," she clarified.
However, the article contested Kim's claim, citing that tanning beds could exacerbate psoriasis instead of providing relief. It quoted dermatologist Dr. Shasa Hu, who highlighted the harm of UV exposure in treating psoriasis. According to Dr. Hu, sunburn, whether from natural sunlight or tanning beds, could trigger a psoriasis flare, cautioning against such practices for psoriasis patients.

The video tour featured both the tanning bed and a red-light bed, with Kim playfully stating, "I’m Kim Kardashian, of course, I have a tanning bed." The office tour showcased various items, including a wall of her magazine covers, a mannequin sized to her measurements, a 3-D model of her brain, and a "product shrine."
