Lamar Odom's daughter, Destiny Odom opened up about her dad's marriage with Khloe Kardashian and said it was toxic and caused significant strain on their daughter-father relationship.

The Good American designer, Khloe Kardashian, 36, was married to the Lakers player, Lamar Odom, 40, in 2009 just one month after they met. Lamar's marriage with Khloe created a barrier between him and his children as he was less involved with them after marriage. Lamar has three children with Liza Morales before marriage to Koko: Destiny, 22, Lamar Odom Jr., 18, and Jayden Odom. Her daughter Destiny said in 2017 that she wasn't able to bond with Lamar until his marriage with Koko ended. “Their relationship is very toxic,” she said.

Destiny has been vocal about her dad and Koko's marriage and the effect it had on their father-daughter relationship. She spoke openly about her life as Khloe's stepdaughter during an interview for People/Entertainment Weekly titled, Surviving A Father’s Addiction: Lamar Odom’s Family Speaks Out. She revealed that the couple didn't have a healthy relationship in their seven years of marriage.

Destiny revealed that the things between them were so challenging that she was surprised to see Khloe by his side when he was fighting for his life in 2015. Lamar was in a serious state as he was in a coma for days after being found unconscious in Las Vegas. Lamar himself revealed in his memoir that Koko, Kris Jenner, and Kim Kardashian never left his side until he recovered. “A lot of people in our circle were confused,” Destiny said referring to Khloe’s presence.

But as time passed by, Lamar and Koko got together and was making more money together than separately which made him more familiar with fame and further fueled his addiction to drugs and sex. His stardom created between him and Destiny. “I wouldn’t say it was a matter of my dad loves Khloe more than me,” Destiny said. “I think that my dad has an addictive personality, so my dad was addicted to the attention he got with Khloe more than me.”

The couple then finally got a divorce after Khloe filed for divorce in December 2013. Lamar himself admitted to cheating on Khloe on multiple occasions and also admitted to being abusive. Destiny expressed her happiness about their divorce as she had her dad back. Lamar still had to work on himself to cope with drug addiction but he did apologize to Destiny for his behavior toward her in the past.

Lamar was motivated to work on himself and went to rehab after his 2015 overdose, as he was willing to improve his relationship with Destiny. Destiny also forgave him. “You have to [forgive] in order to move on,” she said. “Just for yourself, you have to forgive. I would say every day is a step at a time. Every day is a new struggle, a new chapter.”
