In case you are wondering why your daily scroll on Instagram is cut short, it is "Instagram Freeze Day!" and many celebrities including Kim Kardashian took part in the peaceful protest by "freezing" their accounts.

Kim Kardashian won't stay silent! SKIMS founder, Kim, 39, also belongs to the group of celebrities who are freezing their Instagram accounts on September 16. The stars are freezing their account as an act to speak against Instagram's refusal to stop misinformation from spreading. The main purpose of freezing the account is to send a message to the platform owner, Mark Zuckerburg, to stop the spread of misinformation and hate. The beauty mogul also shared her own personal message to Mark before freeing her account. But her account has been recovered now.

“I love that I can connect directly with you through Instagram and Facebook, but I can’t sit by and stay silent while these platforms continue to allow the spreading of hate, propaganda, and misinformation — created by groups to sow division and split America apart –- only to take steps after people are killed,” Kim wrote. 

"Stop Hate for Profit," which is a union of civil rights organizations, purposed the Instagram freeze. “We are quickly approaching one of the most consequential elections in American history. Facebook’s unchecked and vague ‘changes’ are falling dangerously short of what is necessary to protect our democracy,” the organization wrote on their site. 

“Facebook’s role in the Kenosha shooting— which was flagged as violating their policies hundreds of times– is a reminder that changing policies without changing enforcement means little. It reinforces the fact that lives are on the line.” SHFP hopes for support from celebrities for more than 24 hours.
