The 2018 FIFA World Cup host Russia reached the knockout stages for the first time in their world cup history. With all home crowd support Russain thought that , they will enter semis of the competition but it didn't happened. With the loss against Croatia in quarter final, their dream to reach semi final remained a dream for them.

With biggest win of their entire football history against Spain in round of 16 match Russia entered the Quarter final of the world cup for the first time beating Spain in a penalty shootout. The last quarter final match between Croatia and Russia of this world cup was expected to be the brilliant one and it became one the best game in world cup. 

Match started got under way , game was in balanced position until Russian Denis Chersyev scored the stunning one for Russia in 31st minute of the game. WIth a goal behind Croatia kept attacking and got their result  in 39th minute through Kramaric header. 90 minutes up game draw into the extra time. Croatia with corner kick and Vida with the goal 2-1 Croatia in 101st minute of the game. 115th minutes of the game Russia with the attack and Fernandez with goal for Russia, its 2-2. Into the Penalty shootout., 3 goals each rom 4 kicks each . Fernandez with last kick for Russia , misses the target and there comes Ivan Rakitic for Croatia and scores for Croatia. 4-3 on penalties and host are out , Croatia onto the semis and will face England on thursday.
