JOHN BLACKWELL JR., FORMER DRUMMER OF PRINCE DIES AT THE AGE OF 43

The legend drummer and best known for being the drummer for Prince has died due to Brain Tumor at the age of 43.


Wife of Blackwell's Yaritza has delivered the sad news of the death of her husband John Blackwell via his Instagram page which has sadden every one of his fans. According to her post, she has posted a picture of Blackwell and Yartiza holding hands that seems like in a hospital with one hands in globes and another bare which seemed like of Blackwell with heart touching caption, "My husband incredible drummer John Blackwell Jr. passed the way peacefully in my company today," she wrote. "Thanks God for his life and thanks everyone for their support."




Although there had been various plea for funds and help the Blackwell financially for the continous health checkup and treatment, there hadn't be prior announcement of his health getting severe. But Four days before Blackwell's severe health condition, his wife shared an update on his health with caption: "One year ago, my husband, incredible drummer John Blackwell Jr. was diagnosed with brain tumors while in Japan playing at the Blue Note Tokyo in a featuring with top bassist Nik West. This whole year has been very challenging not only for John, but for me also, that have to provide the care he needs, and with the help of God, you as donors, and his doctors, nurses and therapists he is still fighting hard to get better."

"I pray God for John everyday, every hour... and thank you for your prayers, donations and for the good thoughts for John," she added. A GoFundMe donation page was created to help pay for his medical expenses soon after his diagnosis."

John Blackwell Jr. was a famous American contemporary R&B, funk, jazz, fusion, and pop drummer. He had been best known for his work with Prince. Later, he joined D'Angelo's backing band, The Vanguard.Blackwell performed with Prince for over a decade and also played on two of his releases, 2003's instrumental N.E.W.S. album and the Live at the Aladdin Las Vegas DVD.
